Course Record Holder

Programs

If you set the Griffith Park Bellarmine course record 22 years ago, do you stop running?  No, if you’re Richard Erbes, you still get out of bed at 6:00 a.m. and run 15 miles.

If you set the course record for girls eight years ago, you awake at 5:00 a.m. and run 19 miles.  That’s what Natalie Stein does.  She’s pointing for the Detroit Marathon on October 19, with the aim of lowering her 2:52 PR.

If it’s wintertime at Michigan State University and it snows overnight, Natalie tries to avoid the icy patches.  Then she heads into the academic world and pursuit of a Ph.D. in nutrition.  Since last year, she changed her thesis to the effects of gastric bypass surgery on hunger.

For Richard, it’s a day full of family and software engineering.  With wife Stella they have two sons, Joshua, 12, and Jacob, 8, and their many activities.  Stella teaches at Pepperdine and had a book published in December 2007, “What Teachers Should Know but Textbooks Don’t Show.”

Richard competes in trail races and half marathons.  The family lives in Ventura County.
