An Old Friend Tom LaBonge’s love for Griffith Park is reflected in his appreciation of events that are staged in the vast urban expanse. A daily hiker in the park, the L. A. City Councilmember frequently drops by those events, offering enthusiastic words of encouragement. One of those is the Griffith Park Bellarmine Cross Country Invitational. At the 34th annual running in 2007, he presented a city Certificate of Recognition to meet director Jim Couch. On the Certificate, Councilmember LaBonge (left) stated: “I salute the hard work and dedication that is involved in cross country. Strong bodies build strong minds. Best wishes on your accomplishment.” His Council district includes Griffith Park and he grew up in the neighborhood |
